Mindfulness and Helpful Resources

Mindfulness: it is the “in” thing in mental health. The practice of mindfulness really does work to help create more satisfying lives. But what is it and how do you get started practicing mindfulness?

Jon Kabat-Zinn is the man who popularized mindfulness approaches to improving health in this country. He has written a great number of books and produced audio programs and MP3’s. Be advised that he is a very good narrator, but some folks find him a bit talkative.

Other favorite authors include Eckhart Tolle, Deepak Chopra, and others. Often reading a book can be a way into practice.

But most folks will also either need instruction or guidance to get a regular practice going. We encourage people to look into the large number of MP3’s on Amazon for this purpose.

Finally, for mothers (and fathers) or those who are just young at heart we love the recordings and website of Amy Saltzman.

The Still Quiet Place – Amy Saltzman has created a website that is a wonderful resource for those interested in exploring mindfulness meditation. I particularly value the work that she has done bringing the concepts fo mindfulness to children. She has a great CD which I often recommend which has short meditation exercises that you can listen to with your children… or by yourself… they are that good.
