One of our favorite readers sent us a link to an article entitled “The Irony of Suicide” that recently appeared in the New York Times.
We liked the article and thought it might we worth reposting it here. Especially since, irony of ironies, this holiday season is for many people a time when thoughts of suicide can become very difficult to escape.
David Brooks noted that –
According to the World Health Organization, global suicide rates have increased by 60 percent over the past 45 years. The increase in this country is nothing like that, but between 1999 and 2010, the suicide rate among Americans between 35 and 64 rose by 28 percent. More people die by suicide than by auto accidents.
If you know someone who is at risk I urge you to check in with them and find out how they are doing.
And you can read the article itself here.
Finally, If you are feeling desperate…. we like this page a lot.
